Dragonfly Mosaic and Glass Art
Edna Teller, Artist
I remember the first mosaic I made. An artist friend suggested making a patio table together for my backyard. We used colorful ceramic tiles, broken china plates and glass gems. We even included a copper penny for good luck. By the time it was finished, I was hooked -- I knew I had come home.
My approach to fused glass is similar to my approach to mosaics. First, I select a background glass color, and then add layers of glass in different shapes and colors. It feels like putting pieces of a puzzle together, but for an unknown final picture. I stop layering when it feels “right.”
I love glass—its brilliant colors, reflective surfaces, and contrasts of opaque and translucent layers.
